I’ve bemoaned the current state of Hip-Hop/Rap music for a while now but have lately found solace in some exciting voices coming from Europe and even our own shores. Melbourne duo, Remi have this week released their latest single, ‘My People’ and it’s a joyous, rhythmic slice of sunshine just in time to ward off any incoming winter doldrums. With a hint of afrobeat infused percussion and frontman, Remi’s classic flow (not to mention a killer, singalong hook), it’s poised to be the song that ‘breaks’ the group.
Coupled with this colourful video reminiscent of vintage Michel Gondry or David La Chappelle it’s a match made in musical heaven. This can also serve as a reminder that when looking for inspiration we needn’t ignore what’s on our own doorstep. You may be surprised what you find… stay tuned for a Tour in the not too distant future, I reckon.
