I’m taking the night off tonight. I’m not DJing anywhere. Instead, I’ll be the one hitting the dance floor along with a bunch of other 80s & 90s tragics enjoying the choons of original Hacienda DJ, Jon Da Silva.
If you don’t know what the ‘Hacienda’ is, it was THE night spot in 1980s Manchester. Owned by members of New Order and giving a start to bands like The Smiths, Echo & The Bunnymen and The Happy Mondays, its eclectic sounds and new sense of fun helped give birth to a new genre of music called ‘Acid House’. With roots in classic Detroit house & soul music, it managed to capture the hearts and minds of disaffected young people across the U.K., including members of the Stone Roses and a young Noel and Liam Gallagher… I can’t wait, it’s gonna be awesome.
