Ellie Malin

It was such a delight getting to know Ellie Malin. I first discovered Ellie’s work hanging in Modern Times. I just couldn’t stop staring at these 2 large framed artworks and she soon shot straight to the top of my list of people I wanted to meet. Arriving for our interview, we were walked down into her studio space which is an underground hideaway shared by four other creatives. Ellie’s corner was easily recognisable. Piles of colour swatches sit next to painting instruments and books all in a well ordered manner.

Ellie is softly spoken but when she speaks she will easily steal your attention. I was very taken with how Ellie both described and undertook her work. She has a certain rhythm in the way she works, as if always confident of what will come next but patient in the way she delivers it.

“Starting a piece is really easy because it’s open, it’s new, it can go anywhere. Then after a while through the process I start to think more about it, how to resolve it and bring more balance and harmony to the work.” Ellie Malin.

We were lucky enough to capture Ellie working on the Hunting Collective project in her studio and are delighted to be able to share this video with you.
